The Green Line: Community Newsroom at Alexandra Park

From May to August, 2024, join The Green Line at their outpost in front of the Scadding Court Community Centre (SCCC) as they partner to host a community newsroom and engagement outpost in the heart of Toronto’s Alexandra Park neighbourhood. It all kicks off with a launch party on Saturday, May 25 – with music from local artists, food vendors, great conversation and friendly faces!

The community newsroom at SCCC will provide Alexandra Park residents aged 16 to 29 the opportunity to get paid to learn media skills, give back to their community, build their resume and make connections through workshops and mentorship, as they talk to locals, find out what’s on their mind – wins, losses, highlights, problems and everything in between – then report on them.

Visit The Green Line at the SCCC between May and August to chat with their community journalism team, tell them about overlooked and underreported local stories that are important to you and then head over to Market 707 to eat delicious snacks.

About The Green Line

The Green Line is a local Toronto news outlet with a focus on examining how to help young residents “survive and thrive in a rapidly changing city”, encouraging Torontonians to engage in conversations and participate in building a city that’s liveable for everyone. Their name comes from Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth) of the TTC subway system, which appears on subway maps as a green line, and represents everyday Toronto people. Read more about them here.
