For one night only, on Thursday, December 19, 2024, Kensington Art Supply hosts Introduction to Watercolour: Christmas Card Edition, where you’ll learn to make your own Christmas cards! All supplies will be included. This workshop is for artists of all levels, with no prior experience with watercolour required.
Introducing the fascinating world of watercolour
During the workshop, artist instructor Yulia Tsinko will cover topics such as washes, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry and dry-on-dry* watercolour painting techniques, as well as tools and expressive techniques with non-traditional tools and mark-making. Yulia will also cover how to capture light and shadow – including how to make a sparkly sphere – plus a variety of approaches to the creation of holiday cards featuring trees, ornaments and presents.
Students will do several small studies first, to practice basic watercolour techniques – and, once they feel confident, will switch to the actual Christmas cards.
* “Wet” and “dry” are referring to the watercolour paint and the paper it’s being applied to, respectively.
About Kensington Art Supply
Located in southeast Calgary, AB, Kensington Art Supply is the largest locally-owned art supply store in Western Canada. Founded in the mid-70s in the Kensington neighbourhood of Calgary under the name Barnes Art Supply, the store evolved over the years, changing ownership and its name to Kensington Art Supply. Now owned by Annette Wichmann and her husband John since 2003, the store moved to its current, much larger space at the beginning of 2014 and is now officially called Kensington Art Supply & Instruction. The shop now includes retail space, two classroom studios and plenty of parking. Read more about their history here.
