Intimate & Immersive: ‘Suspended Doorways’ Multi-Media Concert

A unique concert experience in an intimate performance space

One night only: Wednesday, May 1, 2024, join Music Director Gemma New and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra as they collaborate with multidisciplinary artist Diana Lynn VanderMeulen for a vivid evening of contemporary music at The Cotton Factory, a historic former textile mill that now serves as a space for artists to convene. The program features music by composers Michael Maevskiy, Saman Shahi, Quinn Jacobs, Ana Sokolovic, Cecilia Livingston, Cris Derksen and Brian Current.

The event blends the emotion of HPO musicians in a moving program with a stimulating visual and light display to enhance the entire experience. In this casual and inviting format, concert-goers are seated around the orchestra only feet from the musicians.

”An immersive visual and musical event, Intimate & Immersive is Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra’s cutting edge, cross-arts concert experience.”

About the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra

Making its debut in 1950, The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) became one of Canada’s leading professional orchestras before closing in 1996 due to financial issues. It was resurrected and returned to the stage on a smaller scale in 1997. Led by Music Director Gemma New since its 2015-16 season, the HPO’s core of professional musicians are mainstays of the southern Ontario music industry, and they’re often joined by international soloists and local talent. Incorporating community partnerships for program development, community outreach and engagement initiatives include accessible all-ages music participation, wellness programming and free concerts.
