The Royal Canadian College of Organists presents the INTERSTELLAR 10 Organ Concert Tour on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Toronto’s Metropolitan United Church. The evening’s performance features Roger Sayer, organ soloist on the Academy Award-nominated soundtrack to Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi blockbuster Interstellar, playing music from the film plus other space-themed movie favourites. Metropolitan United’s pipe organ is the largest instrument in Canada and is celebrated for its rich orchestral tone.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Interstellar & its stirring score
Organ soloist Roger Sayer worked closely with Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer to create the soundtrack for Interstellar – and, over the past decade, the music has developed a dedicated worldwide fandom.
Sayer created INTERSTELLAR 10 with his original arrangements of the movie soundtrack, for the solo organ. Since January, he has performed the concert to sold-out audiences in Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe. His cross-country tour of the concert will be Sayer’s first time performing in Canada.
His program brings to life the drama and intense emotions of the movie’s storyline, interweaving the main themes in one continuous, captivating performance. The concert also features additional space-themed pieces: the opening theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey (Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss) and selections from The Planets by Gustav Holst. The evening’s presentation will also include a short documentary about the creation of the Interstellar soundtrack, followed by an audience Q&A with Sayer.
The Canadian concert tour of INTERSTELLAR 10 also travels to Halifax (October 5), Montréal (October 8), Calgary (October 22) and Vancouver (October 25).
“He is, without exaggeration, an extraordinary artist, whose humanity shines in the impeccable artistry that flows from his hands…”
– Hans Zimmer, award-winning composer
