Théâtre français de Toronto

Théâtre français de Toronto (TfT) is a Toronto-based French language theatre company that produces both classic and original works, as well as cutting-edge projects, reflecting contemporary topics. With an office located in College Park (Yonge and College) in downtown Toronto, they also have a studio space available for rental.

Founded in 1967, TfT is a space of artistic creation reflecting its home city, committed to inclusion and accessibility, and encouraging and fostering professional development. Programming is based on engagement with the public, the TfT team and artists – with the aim of sparking curiosity in both their audiences and artists, inspiring reflection and promoting tolerance.

In addition to their productions, TfT hosts a reading club and acting classes, and offers webcasts of their productions (free and paid), as well as volunteer opportunities. They also conduct engagement and outreach with schools through their Les Zinspiré.es writing contest (for grades 10-12), and school matinees and webcasts. Usually, their productions are accompanied by English surtitles.

What we like about this theatre company

We love that Toronto has a French-language theatre company. Whether you’re a Francophone or Francophile – or Francocurious – you’re in for a lively, engaging and thought-provoking time at the theatre!

We especially appreciate their community involvement – with audiences, schools and artists – engaging to program and perform works in French that reflect our times and city. And their commitment to inclusion and accessibility, as well as their dedication to professional development, for both students and artists, is commendable. (And for those of us whose French is rusty, we’re very happy that they supply English surtitles.) (Written by C.M.)

Accessibility information: Their office and studio space are accessible by elevator. For performances, please refer to the venue. TfT productions at Berkeley Street Theatre usually happen on the 2nd floor and are accessible only via stairs.

We love theatre companies because they inspire you to get out and experience live theatre. Experiencing live theatre allows you to immerse yourself in the characters and story in a deeper, more meaningful way. Immersing yourself in the characters and story in a deeper, more meaningful way is part of the flourishing offline life Young W helps you discover: by exploring PERFORMANCE and the other 8 pillars of Arts & Letters, including those you may be hesitant to try.
